The Timmins Economic Development Corporation(TEDC) and the Timmins and District Multicultural Centre (TDMC) are happy to announce that the Northeastern Ontario Immigration portal is now available in seven languages, including English, French, Chinese, Spanish, Arabic, Punjabi and Filipino.

The Northeastern Ontario Immigration portal was developed in partnership between the TDMC and the TEDC and launched in June 2017. The two organizations recognized a gap in available resources for newcomers and for those looking to start a life in Northeastern Ontario. The portal helps address issues relating to static and declining populations and provides information about local services and resources.

The portal is mobile friendly and helps organize community information necessary to make settlement decisions. “Having access to services in their first language is an invaluable asset for newcomers,” said TEDC chairman Fred Gibbons. “The TEDC is proud to be part of this initiative and it’s just one of the ways we are working to diversify our economy in Northeastern Ontario.”

Tom Baby, TDMC Coordinator, said “this new tool allows newcomers — whether they’re from Chinatown, Toronto or Beijing, China — to get a sense of a fresh new life in over 30 Northeastern Ontario communities. By attracting newcomers to the region, this tool will help Northeastern Ontario spur growth and innovation.”

This project is funded by the government of Ontario through the Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration.
