TIMMINS, ON – The Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT) Subcommittee led by the Timmins Economic Development Corporation (TEDC) is pleased to present the Canadian Snowcross Racing Association (CSRA) with a check for $25,000 to support the Timmins Pro Snowcross 2022 Event taking place this weekend.

“The Mat Fund was implemented to support events that draw tourism to Timmins,” said Audrey Penner, chair of the TEDC board. “The Snowcross races promote Timmins as a winter destination for tourism and showcases our northern lifestyle to visitors,” Penner added.

The welcomed return of the Snowcross races is an encouraging step for tourism activities as pandemic restrictions relax. Over 100 racing teams with 4-5 people per team and spectators will fill the city with tourism dollars. “Our hotels and restaurants are anticipating the return of patrons, and the TEDC and MAT Subcommittee are pleased to support an event that will encourage tourism in the city,” said Penner.

Angela Vacchino the event’s coordinator for the Canadian Snowcross Racing Association is grateful that the MAT Fund exists to support tourism activities, saying “We’re thankful to the TEDC and the MAT Subcommittee for supporting the Snowcross event and encouraging tourism again,” said Vacchino. She thanks the City of Timmins, and all of the local businesses for their continued support along with new corporate sponsors such as Timmins Financial and JP Legault Group.

Some of Canada’s best pro racers will battle for the Triple Crown Title at the return of the Timmins Pro Snowcross. Gates open at 8am on March 12th and 13th with two full days of racing from all ages.

Tickets are sold at the event and kids enter for free on Saturday. Food and beverage and onsite washrooms will be available. Attendees are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to support the local food bank.
