TIMMINS, ON – The Timmins Economic Development Corporation (TEDC) and the Municipal Accommodation Tax (MAT) Subcommittee presented a $60k check in support of the Punjabi Cultural Music Festival. The event is taking place during Timmins’ first Khalsa Day celebration on June 25, 2022. 

This event celebrates Sikh culture in Timmins and welcomes residents from the region to participate. The festivities of the day will include traditional ceremonies, free vegetarian food, turban tying experience, Gatka (Sikh Martial Arts) and an information display.

The Khalsa Parade begins at 11 a.m. at the Sikh Sangat on Cedar Street South and is expected to draw 1000 participants. The Punjabi Cultural Music Festival is taking place at Mountjoy Historical Park with a special performance by renowned singer Jazzy B.

The event has been coordinated with the support of the Timmins Festivals and Events Committee, Downtown Timmins BIA, Timmins Police Services, the Mattagami Region Conservation Authority, the City of Timmins and the TEDC.

About the MAT Fund

The MAT is a 4 per cent fee imposed on the cost of hotel accommodations lasting 30 days or less. The City of Timmins is required to pay 50 per cent of the net MAT revenue to an eligible tourism entity to be used to promote tourism. The remaining 50 per cent is transferred to a reserve fund to be used as City Council directs.
