TIMMINS, ON – Timmins Economic Development Corporation in partnership with the Timmins and District Hospital and the Timmins Physician Recruitment and Retention Committee (TPRRC), is proud to announce the launch of a new physician recruitment campaign, supported by funding from the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs’ Rural Economic Development (RED) program.

The initiative includes a refreshed recruitment website, a new tradeshow booth designed for medical conferences, and a compelling video series featuring local physicians who share their experiences living and working in Timmins. Together, these new tools are designed to promote Timmins as a welcoming, vibrant, and opportunity-rich community for healthcare professionals.

Timmins is currently facing a shortage of more than 40 physicians, including primary care providers and specialists.

The new campaign will soon roll out targeted digital advertising across Canada, focusing on communities with medical schools. The goal is to directly engage medical residents and professionals who are exploring career options and community fit.

“Physician recruitment is more than a healthcare issue—it’s an economic development priority,” says Michelle Boileau, Mayor of Timmins. “Our campaign reflects the urgent need to attract new physicians to meet local healthcare demands and support broader business and community growth.”

Physician recruitment also brings economic benefits beyond healthcare. New physicians represent substantial public investment through provincial funding, help sustain local jobs in healthcare, and contribute to the community as small business owners. Their presence supports other sectors by improving quality of life and making it easier for businesses to attract and retain employees.

This project is being delivered in partnership with the Timmins Physician Recruitment and Retention Committee, a regional collaborative including the Timmins Economic Development Corporation and Timmins and District Hospital, among other key stakeholders.
