For immediate release

The TEDC and the City of Timmins are looking forward to hosting a group of dignitaries from Vinto, Bolivia during the week of November 27th. The group will tour select businesses and organizations in the region, highlighting local partnerships and program successes.

Through the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM), the TEDC is taking part in the Local Economic Development program sponsored by Global Affairs Canada. This initiative helps connect Canadian municipalities with international communities, and generate economic opportunities for Timmins. The goal of the program is to facilitate shared-learning and capacity-building prospects for emerging economies.

Fred Gibbons, TEDC chairman, said, “The delegation will get to experience Northeastern Ontario by touring some of the small businesses that are helping diversify Timmins’ economy. Dairy processing is another keen interest, and we’ve partnered with Haasen Farms to showcase their facility.”

Mayor Steve Black said, “We’re very happy to be working with FCM and building long-lasting relationships between communities. The Bolivians are interested in some of the processes Timmins uses, and we’re looking forward to showing them our water treatment, waste management and GIS systems.”

The TEDC will also work with the Bolivians in a longer-term capacity to adopt programs that are offered by the TEDC and the Business Enterprise Centre in Bolivia.

Join us on Monday, November 27th at 10:30 am for the Bolivian flag-raising at City Hall.

The City of Timmins and the TEDC are looking for your support to bring the Noront Ferrochrome Production Facility to Timmins. We’re competing with Sudbury, Thunder Bay and Sault Ste. Marie for this facility and 494 new jobs for Timmins. The FPF would be built at an existing brownfield site to process ore from the Ring of Fire after production begins.

A critical factor in the proposal will be the level of community and business support for this facility. Share your support using one of the templates below and send your letter to christy.marinig@timmins.ca by January 17th.

For community members, share your support through the Kiss 99.3  #BringtheRingtoTimmins campaign!

2016 Goals & Progress

As our 2015 Annual Report has been released, we are pleased to confirm that we exceeded nearly all of the goals we set for ourselves for 2015. As a result, the Corporation supported the creation of 101 jobs and leveraged just over $7.5 million in funding for clients. That translates into an 8:1 return on investment of city tax dollars allocated to the TEDC.

This infographic provides highlights from just a few of the the many business and community projects in which the TEDC participated, as well as an overview of the goals we set for ourselves and how they were met. If you’d like to learn more about some of our other projects, and the partners we work with, please get in touch with us.
