The TEDC and the City of Timmins are looking forward to hosting a group of dignitaries from Vinto, Bolivia during the week of November 27th. The group will tour select businesses and organizations in the region, highlighting local partnerships and program successes.

Through the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM), the TEDC is taking part in the Local Economic Development program sponsored by Global Affairs Canada. This initiative helps connect Canadian municipalities with international communities, and generate economic opportunities for Timmins. The goal of the program is to facilitate shared-learning and capacity-building prospects for emerging economies.

Fred Gibbons, TEDC chairman, said, “The delegation will get to experience Northeastern Ontario by touring some of the small businesses that are helping diversify Timmins’ economy. Dairy processing is another keen interest, and we’ve partnered with Haasen Farms to showcase their facility.”

Mayor Steve Black said, “We’re very happy to be working with FCM and building long-lasting relationships between communities. The Bolivians are interested in some of the processes Timmins uses, and we’re looking forward to showing them our water treatment, waste management and GIS systems.”

The TEDC will also work with the Bolivians in a longer-term capacity to adopt programs that are offered by the TEDC and the Business Enterprise Centre in Bolivia.

Join us on Monday, November 27th at 10:30 am for the Bolivian flag-raising at City Hall.
