Let’s celebrate Timmins Nonprofit Community

TIMMINS, ON – On February 13–17, 2023 join the Timmins Economic Development Corporation (TEDC) in celebrating our community champions. Learn more about Bill 9 (the Nonprofit Sector Appreciation Week Act), support our local non-profit organizations, and recognize the importance of the nonprofit sector in our community.

The TEDC’s community Economic Development team works with nonprofits, social enterprises and other organizations to help build capacity, access funding, and achieve their mission. All services provided by the TEDC are free.

Nonprofit Appreciation Week marks the first birthday of the Timmins Nonprofit Community, a private Facebook group facilitated by TEDC’s Community Economic Development team. The group allows non-profit leaders a safe space to ask questions, share information and discuss challenges common across our local nonprofit sector.

“Although sometimes overlooked, the work undertaken by non-profit organizations is vital to Timmins’ social and economic development. The pandemic has helped raise awareness of the role that these organizations play in building a stronger and more resilient community,” said Dr. Audrey Penner, Chair of the TEDC Board of Directors.

Ontario’s nonprofit sector employs nearly 850,000 people and contributes $65 billion to economy. Nonprofit Appreciation Week is an opportunity to celebrate the vital role nonprofits and their dedicated workers play in creating and maintaining healthy, vibrant and inclusive communities across Ontario.

“This is particularly important at a time when our nonprofit sector professionals continue to deliver vital services despite pandemic pivots, funding shortages and workforce recruitment challenges,” said Christy Marinig, CEO of the TEDC.
